When Things Go Wrong: Practical Lessons from Real Workplace Investigations
Workplace problems rarely start as major crises. Staff complaints, misconduct allegations, bullying claims, fraud concerns, conflicts of interest, cyber incidents, and reputational risks often begin as small issues — but can escalate quickly when handled poorly.
In this practical and engaging breakfast session, Jason King from Regional Queensland Investigations will draw on real-world workplace investigation experience to explain what businesses can do when things go wrong.
Jason will walk attendees through practical lessons from sensitive workplace and organisational matters, including the common mistakes that expose businesses to legal, financial, operational, and reputational risk.
The session is designed for business owners, managers, HR professionals, committee members, and organisational leaders who want practical strategies they can apply immediately in their own workplace.
Attendees will gain practical insights into:
- How workplace issues often escalate when handled incorrectly
- Early warning signs that businesses and managers commonly miss
- Common mistakes made during staff complaints and misconduct matters
- How to respond professionally to sensitive workplace allegations
- The importance of procedural fairness, documentation, and evidence
- Managing reputational risk during workplace disputes or incidents
- When to investigate internally and when to engage an external investigator
- Practical steps to reduce legal, financial, and organisational risk
- How leadership, workplace culture, and early intervention reduce exposure
- Lessons learned from real Queensland workplace investigation case studies
