Boost your Business with the Business Basics Grant Program

May 20, 2024 by Chamber Liaison

The Whitsundays Chamber of Commerce and Industry is excited to announce the opening of the Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Business Basics Grant program. This initiative is designed to bolster the resilience of small businesses in Queensland.

“This grant presents a vital opportunity for small businesses to pause and evaluate their operations. We encourage businesses to focus on sustainability, security, or continuity to enhance their resilience” said Chamber President Allan Milostic.

“Understanding that time and resources are scarce for business owners, we take pride in the local support available in the Whitsundays. We urge applicants to engage with local businesses for assistance in these key areas” said Allan.

Grant Overview

  • Funding: A direct grant of $5,000 is available to support business resilience enhancement, with no co-funding required.
  • Eligibility: Small businesses with fewer than 20 employees, registered for GST, based in Queensland, and meeting specified turnover limits.
  • Restriction: Businesses that have previously received a Business Basics Grant are ineligible.

Application Process

  • EOI Period: Interested businesses can submit their EOI from 29 May to 11 June 2024.
  • Selection: Applicants will be randomly selected to proceed with a full application.
  • Assessment: Grant applications will be thoroughly assessed, and applicants will be notified of the results.
  • Commencement: Successful applicants will be able to initiate their proposed projects upon notification.

Funding Priorities

This grant round emphasises fostering resilience through:

  • Business continuity and succession planning
  • Security planning and solutions
  • Sustainability initiatives

Support provided

The Chamber encourages businesses to apply for the grant and is offering to local businesses with nominated Chamber members — experienced in the Business Basics Grant — for a complementary grant planning discussion.

In the planning discussions, our nominated Chamber members will confirm your eligibility, help you create a rough implementation plan, and refer you to other Chamber members who might be able to provide these services for you.
