Artist Expression of Interest

Help bring Christmas to the Whitsundays!

Creative Connections Whitsunday, in partnership with the Whitsundays Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WCC&I), is inviting local artists to get involved in bringing some festive cheer to our town centres this Christmas.

We’re looking for artists to create simple, eye-catching Christmas designs on shopfront windows in Airlie Beach, Cannonvale and Proserpine. It’s a great opportunity to showcase your creativity, connect with local businesses and earn a fee for your work.

This Expression of Interest (EOI) will help us understand your availability, experience, capacity and requirements so we can match artists with participating businesses and plan the project.

A few things to know before applying:

  • Designs: Artists will develop their own Christmas-themed designs, keeping them appropriate for a general audience and family-friendly. Designs will need to suit the business, the available window space, and any restrictions on where painting is permitted.
  • Shopfronts: A standard shopfront is approximately 3–5 metres wide, with 1.5–2.4 metres of glass height. Actual sizes and requirements will vary.
  • Payment: The fee is $139 per completed standard shopfront. Larger or more complex shopfronts requiring significantly more work will be assessed individually before allocation.
  • Materials: Only approved, suitable removable materials may be used. The project brief and artist agreement will clarify which materials are supplied by the Chamber and any other requirements.
  • Allocations: Submitting an EOI does not guarantee work. Participation is subject to confirmation by Creative Connections Whitsunday and WCC&I, participating business demand and artist availability.
  • Agreement: Selected artists must enter into a written agreement with WCC&I before commencing work. This will confirm the scope, fee, deadlines, materials, payment arrangements, and other applicable conditions.

If you’d like to be part of this festive project, please complete the EOI below by Sunday 1 November. You can save your progress and return to your application later, just make sure you submit it before the deadline.

We look forward to hearing from local creatives and helping bring a little extra Christmas spirit to the Whitsundays!

Scope of Work & Completion Requirements

Selected artists will receive a brief identifying the participating business, shopfront location, agreed areas to be decorated, materials and completion deadline.

For payment purposes, a completed shopfront must meet the agreed scope of work, including:

  • Application of appropriate, family friendly Christmas design to the agreed window area.
  • Completion of the agreed decoration to a neat, professional and presentable standard.
  • Use of approved, suitable removable materials.
  • Compliance with agreed business requirements and applicable design or branding instructions.
  • Clean-up of the work area and removal of associated rubbish and equipment.
  • Notification to the Chamber when the work is complete, including photographs of the finished shopfront if requested.

Any material changes to the approved design or scope must be authorised by WCC&I before proceeding.

If work is incomplete or does not meet the agreed requirements, the Chamber will identify outstanding items and, where practicable, provide an opportunity for the artist to rectify them within an agreed timeframe.

Artists must advise WCC&I as soon as reasonably practicable if they anticipate delays or cannot attend an agreed booking.

Fee & Artist Agreement

The agreed fee is a flat rate of $139 per completed shopfront for the approved scope of work. It is not an hourly rate.

Before commencing work, selected artists must enter into a written agreement with WCC&I setting out the scope of work, payment arrangements, completion deadlines, materials and expenses, cancellation requirements, non-attendance provisions, rectification of incomplete work and other applicable terms and conditions.

The agreement will clarify which materials are supplied by the Chamber.

No additional payment for variations or work outside the approved scope will be provided unless authorised in writing by WCC&I beforehand.
