I want to start this week sending out huge
congratulation to the Airlie Beach Hotel for coming back bigger, better and
bolder than before!
From what I’ve heard, The Pub was packed over the Easter
holidays and I hope this was also the case for other businesses on the
Esplanade and Main Street. Feedback was excellent. Well Done.
Congratulations also to Daydream Island on their
reopening earlier this month, understandable some initial issues to overcome
but a very welcome return of a very popular resort –we look forward to the
knock-on effect for the wider region.
This weekend is the inaugural Whitsundays Festival of
Motoring, a free community event which will showcase our region like never
before. Starting Abell Point Marina on Friday at 4pm, there will be lots to do.
With luck this will become a permanent fixture on our calendar and may grow
into a stage of the national rally championship so it is important we get
involved and support this event
Turning our attention to May 18, we will be casting
our vote for the next Federal Government to lead this country. Whatever your
political views, the worst possible vote, is no vote at all.
Not voting is not just a neutral decision – it allows
others to be have influence when your vote should have counted.
I encourage everyone to make an informed decision and
there are many sources of information available. If you are a small business
owner the Chamber
of Commerce & Industry Queensland website is a valuable and
useful source, with no-nonsense, factual stories from both sides of the
political divide and, of course, a business slant.
They are also running a campaign in the lead-up to the
election – Small Business is a Big Deal – which aims to highlight to both
parties the significant impact that small businesses have on not only our
economy but also the community, in terms of employment and giving back.
This is a campaign that you can get involved in visit www.supportsmall.org.au
- and directly lobby the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition using
their pre-drafted email.
It is vital that this election – no matter who wins –
brings positive benefits for small business.
Until next time
